TERRITORIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Creative Connections Therapy acknowledges our privilege to locate, work and serve on the original lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene people, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation. We recognize the Treaties that were created on these territories, and we mourn the horrific mistakes, both past and present, that have been made. We acknowledge the white supremacy that is dominant in our current society and how white settlers have benefited from colonization and oppressive systems. We specifically address the unethical practices and harmful impacts mental health professionals have caused Indigenous people. We take accountability for these failures and commit to a practice that listens to truth, learns from the Care-Takers of the Land, honours the wisdom, and elevates the voices of Indigenous people.
We commit to active reconciliation through education, collaboration, self-reflection, and activism in the areas of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act Action Plan. We offer our desire for ongoing change and therapeutic relationships, with gratitude for the Care-Takers of the land. In the hope and spirit of reconciliation and decolonization, Creative Connections Therapy commits to embodying anti-racism in belief, policy, and practice.
